Professor Murphy (B.A. University of California, Berkeley; M.A., Ph.D. University of California, Irvine) specializes in African American literature and culture. Particular research interests of hers include Black feminisms, the history of literary criticism, and poetry and poetics. Her research has received fellowship support from the American Philosophical Society, the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, and the LSA Collegiate Fellows program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
