Three-Quarter Timeline

Students who have not satisfied the Entry-Level Writing Requirement before enrolling at UCR as full-time students must pass a designated basic writing course within their first three quarters of full-time enrollment. Any student who does not fulfill the requirement within their first three quarters of full-time enrollment will NOT be allowed to enroll for a fourth quarter at UCR. The three-quarter rule does not apply to ESL students taking BWST 003 until they are eligible to enroll in ENGL 004.

New students should therefore think seriously about satisfying the ELWR before enrolling in the fall. Clearing the requirement early gives students immediate access to courses in the Freshman English Composition sequence. It also helps ensure that they will be able to complete their degrees in four years.
